Threadlifts: we seem to see all these burning questions about what they are and what they really do. So we've rounded up some of the most common questions about threadlifts our patients ask us - and answer them all!

What are threadlifts? Is that like threading?
No, not at all! Threadlifts have nothing to do with facial hair removal. Instead, a threadlift is an aesthetic treatment that firms up sagging skin and stimulates collagen production, through the expert placement of ultra-fine polydioxanone (PDO) threads.

In a nutshell, think of a threadlift as a non-surgical facelift.

What are the benefits of getting a threadlift?
  • Lifts and tightens sagging skin
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Helps create a V-shaped face
  • Safe, non-surgical procedure with minimal downtime

What areas can be treated by threadlifts?
Threadlifts are used most commonly to treat sagging skin on the face and neck, reduce double chins, as well as to achieve a V-shaped face.

Such threadlifts can also be used to treat specific wrinkles, such as crows' feet, nasolabial folds, glabellar folds, or fine facial lines.

How do threadlifts work? How do these threads hold up my skin and give me a V-shaped face?
The fundamental science behind threadlifts is simple: the threads inserted into your skin essentially create a firm hold on surrounding tissues, helping to lift sagging skin and achieve sharper facial features.

How this works: Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are adeptly inserted under the skin by Dr. Kok. Once inserted, the PDO threads create a firm hold on the underlying tissues as they are gently positioned into place by Dr. Kok, resulting in the lifting and tightening of sagging skin.

Once the threads are in place, your body naturally responds by regenerating new collagen bundles that surround each thread filament to maintain the lifting effect, resulting in a natural-looking V-shaped face.

And don’t worry! These PDO threads are safe – they are in fact ultra-fine medical-grade threads commonly used in cardiovascular surgeries. These threads are also safely absorbable by the skin.

What can I expect during the procedure?
Prior to the threadlift procedure, an experienced therapist will apply a local anaesthetic to the treatment area.

Once the anaesthetic has set, Dr. Kok will begin the procedure by outlining the placement of the dissolvable threads in the treatment area, before advancing the threads across previously marked placements.

You’ll most likely feel a slight tugging effect, but most patients don’t feel any pain during the procedure. We also give you the option of taking an additional painkiller, if that puts you at ease!

For those who are terrified of any (imaginary!) pain, we are also able to do a regional block – which has a stronger effect than a topical anaesthetic.

Is there downtime? What’s the recovery process like?
Downtime differs from patient to patient and tends to be a fewdays.

High-impact sports, saunas, tanning beds, as well as face or neck massages should be avoided for 2-4 weeks following the treatment. Dr. Kok, along with his team of experienced therapists, will advise you on how to best protect your skin as it heals.

How soon can I see results?
Some patients report seeing a lifting result immediately! However, the optimum results for skin lifting and tightening can be seen in 1-2 months, according to the body’s natural collagen regeneration process.

Can the threads be seen under my skin?
The threads can’t be seen, no matter how fair you are or how thin your skin is, so don’t worry! These threads are really fine – less than 0.5mm in fact – and they’re transparent too!
