Now, You Can Laser Away Your Dark Eye Circles

Dark eye circles: otherwise known as the bane of our lives. We hear people complaining about this all the time and how they wish they had more sleep!

There are primarily 2 main causes of dark eye circles:

Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is caused by excessive melanin production – melanin being the substance that gives our skin its colour – resulting in skin darkening. There are a number of factors that can trigger hyperpigmentation: too much exposure to the sun, hormones, or even skin allergies like eczema or irritation from unsuitable cosmetics.

Blood Vessels
Due to the skin under the eyes tending to be thinner and more transparent, blood vessels can be seen more clearly. As our skin tends to transmit blue light better, the blood vessels under the eye give off a bluish and brownish appearance.

Dark eye circles are one of the most common aesthetic problems we face, yet in comparison, one of the most challenging to treat, as the skin around the eyes is thinner, more delicate, and more transparent.

However, not all hope is lost! Dark eye circles – whether they’re caused by pigmentation or blood vessels – can be treated by lasers. If the first thing that came to your mind was LASIK, don’t worry, it’s definitely nowhere near that level of invasiveness! To ease any concerns you might have and to get rid of any misconceptions, we’ve rounded up some FAQ on our dark eye circles laser treatment below:

What happens during a laser treatment?
Don’t worry – it’s nothing like LASIK! It’s a non-surgical, non-invasive laser treatment that targets the undereye area to reduce the appearance of dark eye circles.

First, we cleanse the treatment area to ensure that there is no eye makeup residue; after which we apply a numbing cream to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

After Dr Kok calibrates the laser settings to best suit your skin condition, he will then direct the laser across your undereye area. You might feel a mild prickly sensation, but most patients find it tolerable. The treatment should take about 15-20 minutes.

Is there any downtime? Any there any special precautions I should take note of?
Not at all! There is no downtime and side effects are minimal to none – you can resume your daily routine and wear makeup immediately.
