Having a V-shaped face is a coveted physical attribute amongst many, but we end up hearing so many false claims, myths, and beliefs surrounding V-shaped face treatments.
We put these myths to rest:
1. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatments can help achieve a V-shaped face by melting my excess fats away
To set the record straight, HIFU treatments, such as Ultherapy, do not melt fats. Rather, such treatments firm up sagging skin by boosting our bodies’ natural collagen production.
Sometimes, not having a V-shaped face is not so much about the fats in our face but rather our muscle structure – in particular, our masseters.
The masseters are 2 bulky muscles on the side of our jaws, helping us chew. But habitual grinding of our teeth or excessive chewing can cause these muscles to grow in size, contributing to a “U-shaped face”.
In such cases, botulinum toxin injections can help to reduce the size of our masseters, making a V-shaped face more apparent.

2. Botulinum toxin jaw reduction injections will freeze my face, giving me lockjaw
This is most definitely not true!
Botulinum toxin injections don’t render your face completely expressionless, neither does it freeze your muscles entirely. What it does is that it causes your masseters to shrink, in turn resulting in a sharper jawline.
Some of the more common side effects include slight bruising, swelling, and bleeding at the injection area, but these should subside within a few days. Definitely nowhere near lockjaw!
3. It’s not always about reducing the size of your face
Sometimes, adding volume at strategic points on your face helps achieve that coveted V shaped face as well!
Hyaluronic acid fillers can also be injected to sharpen your chin, helping to achieve better facial symmetry and a sharper V-shaped face.
