What are laser treatments?

Laser treatments are popular aesthetic procedures that can rejuvenate skin and reduce the effects of aging and UV damage in a safe, minimally invasive manner.

Laser treatments can address a range of skin concerns, such as acne, spider veins, hair removal, pigmentation, and wrinkles.

How does it work to improve my skin?
Laser treatments direct a concentrated pulse of light into your skin. Depending on the type of laser you choose, the laser treatment can either:

1. Gently resurface the outer layers of your skin
This promotes the growth of new skin, resulting in improved skin texture and tone, along with the reduction in acne blemishes and skin imperfections.

2. Penetrate the deeper layers of your skin to stimulate collagen production, as well as reduce wrinkles and pigmentation
How lasers stimulate collagen production is similar to the process of muscle building, where with exercise, muscle fibres are broken down, but the body repairs them to become better and stronger.

In the same way, the heat energy from the laser treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing process, causing collagen and elastin to reproduce at a higher rate. This makes the skin repair itself faster, improving skin texture and reducing redness.

Does it hurt? What’s the recovery time like?
This varies from laser to laser. The gentler laser procedures don’t hurt at all! You’ll likely feel a mild warm sensation as the laser is directed across your face. There is no downtime for such procedures either – you’ll be able to apply makeup and resume your daily routine immediately.

For lasers that resurface your skin, you might feel a prickly sensation during the procedure, but most patients report this as tolerable. To make the procedure even more comfortable, we apply a numbing cream over the treatment area and take steps during the procedure to ensure that it is as comfortable for you as possible.

How much do laser treatments cost?
The cost of laser treatments can range from $300, and depends on a number of factors:

No. of Treatments Required
Those with milder skin concerns may see improvements in just one session, but those with more severe pigmentation or acne scars may require more treatments, up to 6 sessions.

Type of Laser
Different types of lasers are used depending on your skin concern.

What are the different types of lasers available?

Lasers can largely be split into 2 categories:

Ablative Lasers:
These are lasers that resurface your skin, by removing the outer layers of sun-damaged or aged skin, to reveal new skin with improved skin texture and tone. Erbium YAG and Fractional C02 lasers are the common examples of ablative lasers.

Do note that ablative lasers are commonly associated with a week of downtime, so do plan your laser appointment carefully around your social schedule!

Non-Ablative Lasers:
These types of lasers work to rejuvenate your skin while being much gentler in nature – there is no downtime associated with such lasers. You can do this treatment during your lunch break, and immediately apply makeup and go back to work after. Examples of non-ablative lasers include long-pulsed Nd-YAG and Q-Switched Nd-YAG lasers.

5 Skincare Travel Tips for Long Flights

With the stress that flying does to your skin, it’s best to take those extra steps to ensure your skin stays in tip-top condition from take-off to landing. We’ve compiled some skincare tips to take note of even when you’re 30,000 feet above ground. It all boils down to 2 things: hydration and sun protection. Safe travels!

Travel Skincare Tips | LS Aesthetic Clinic

Tip #1 – The 3 magic letters: S-P-F

The higher altitude you fly, the closer you’ll be to the sun, and thus the stronger the UV rays. This unfortunately means that more UV damage can be inflicted onto your skin (especially if you love the window seat)!

Hence, applying sunscreen is key – at LS Aesthetic we have a range of suncreens available (tinted ones too!) to suit all skin types.

Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every 3 hours too, especially if you’re taking a long haul flight.

Tip #2 – Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise

Whenever the air is dry, such as recirculated air in a plane cabin, the air tends to draw moisture from wherever it can, including your skin. Your skin reacts to compensate for this dehydration: dry skin tends to get even drier and oily skin tends to get even oilier. And that’s not what we want!

Before your flight, be sure to apply a hydrating serum. Our Lipid Drops - a replenishing serum with glycolipids and phospholipids - provides instant and sustained moisture for smoother skin texture and tone.

During your flight, use as much moisturiser as needed, such as our Arbutin Moisturiser or Oil-Free Moisturiser. And if you can, put a mask on it! If you’re afraid of others’ judgments and odd stares, try a transparent sleeping mask, such as our 02 Lift Mask, which is not only more discreet, but also packed with active ingredients that work overtime to give you a hydrated, well-rested appearance by the time you land.

Tip #3 - Water is an in-flight essential

The small cups of water that are given out on the plane are definitely not enough! Drink as much water as you can, but an amount that you are comfortable with.

To make life a little easier, bring an empty water bottle with you and ask the flight attendant to help you fill it up.

Tip #4 – Be sure to blot

For oily skin, if dehydrated, the skin tends to overcompensate by increasing oil production. Oil is a breeding ground for bacteria and may exacerbate breakouts.

To curb any unwanted breakouts, blot skin regularly with tissue or oil blotting papers.

Tip #5 – Exfoliate and cleanse upon landing

Upon landing, be sure to cleanse your face and use a mild facial scrub to exfoliate any dry skin cells and minimise the occurrence of clogged pores.

Be sure to follow up with your usual skincare routine too, to ensure your skin bounces back quickly from any post-flight dullness.

Be it a mid-day pick me up or a quick beauty fix just in time for the holidays, we’re always in search of non-invasive aesthetic treatments that deliver great results, fast, – think radiant skin and a more youthful appearance.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up a list of beauty treatments that have no downtime and can be done during your lunchtime break – perfect for those always on the go!

Lunchtime Beauty Treatments for Glowing Skin | LS Aesthetic Clinic

For Radiant Skin
Just about everyone covets that youthful, dewy glow – here are some of our tried-and-tested methods of achieving that:

Skin Booster Injections: A favourite amongst Korean and Taiwanese celebrities, skin booster injections are a series of micro-injections that use hyaluronic acid to restore hydration to your skin from within, resulting in that coveted glow.

Laser Treatments: These are a great way of rejuvenating your skin while remaining minimally invasive. The concentrated light pulses directed into your skin by laser treatments not only promote the growth of new skin, resulting in improved skin texture and tone, but also stimulate collagen production. We particularly recommend our Dual Yellow laser – a painless and non-invasive laser that is ideal even for sensitive skin.

Facial Peels: Chemical peels, or more popularly known as ‘lunchtime peels’, use mild alpha-hydroxyl (AHA) acids, lactic acid peels or peels with naturally occurring fruit acids, to safely and gently exfoliate your skin while stimulating cell turnover. This results in a reduction of fine lines, tightened pores, as well as the removal of the outer layers of damaged skin to reveal new and more youthful skin – and all this with minimal downtime! You can go back to work and resume your daily activities immediately after your procedure.

Hydradermabrasion/Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive aesthetic procedure that exfoliates dead skin cells, and stimulates skin cell growth. Think of the procedure as a vacuum that painlessly and gently buffs the dull outer layers of your skin! Hydradermabrasion takes things one step further: it not only exfoliates your skin like in microdermabrasion, but also simultaneously infuses medical-grade serums into your skin, resulting in a deeply-hydrated and more radiant complexion.

For A Youthful Appearance
For a quick, turn-back-the clock effect, anti-wrinkle injections (Botox® / Dysport® / Xeomin®) help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

To restore youthful volume, dermal fillers are a great way of fighting initial signs of aging, such as sunken or hollowed cheeks. Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in our bodies that help to keep our skin smooth, supple, and hydrated.

Radiofrequency Skin Lifting Treatments in Singapore | LS Aesthetic Clinic

For Skin Tightening
Our radiofrequency facials are a great, non-invasive method of skin tightening that help to lift and tighten sagging skin. A handheld device emitting radio waves is directed across your skin in gentle strokes, safely stimulating collagen production. Most of our patients generally experience a warm sensation, which they find relaxing and comfortable – some even fall asleep during the process. Talk about a lunchtime power nap!
