The Lowdown on Crystal Tomato

Pigmentation is one of the most common skin concerns many of us tend to have. Apart from laser treatments or chemical peels, oral supplements can also be a great way to lighten unwanted pigmentation – one of these being Crystal Tomato.

Crystal Tomato is a 100% natural food supplement. Interestingly, it is harvested from a unique breed of non-genetically modified white tomatoes. But what’s so great about a whitening pill that’s made from white tomatoes?

The secret lies in the carotenoids that these white tomatoes contain – carotenoids are plant pigments that give a plant its colour, like how carrots get their orange hue. These carotenoids from white tomatoes are the active ingredients in Crystal Tomato, and have been scientifically proven to result in a healthier and more radiant complexion.

Why is Crystal Tomato so great for me?

  1. Controls the formation of new pigmentation
Crystal Tomato carotenoids inhibit melanin synthesis, effectively controlling pigmentation while brightening and lightening skin.

Heard about how eating too many carrots can make your skin turn orange? Unlike orange carotenoids – as found in carrots – that turn the skin tan or orange when consumed in large amounts, Crystal Tomato carotenoids do not contain any visible colour that will tan the skin.

  2. Reduces existing melanin and pigmentation in skin
Crystal Tomato carotenoids and L-Cysteine are active ingredients in Crystal Tomato, and have also been scientifically proven to reduce the melanin present in freckles, age spots, or those dark acne spots that just don’t seem to go away.

L-Cysteine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in our bodies. It helps to boost our body’s production of glutathione, an anti-oxidant that has the ability to lighten dark skin and pigmentation.

  3. Protects against UV rays and city pollution
Crystal Tomato carotenoids have the ability to absorb light in the UVA/UVB range, making them a good protector against free radicals found in these harmful UV rays.

Crystal Tomato supplements thus act as antioxidants to protect against free-radical damage.

With all it can do, Crystal Tomato thus helps to promote a more even skin tone, and a more radiant complexion. However, it doesn’t mean you can neglect your skin – proper protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays is still necessary!

Fat-Freezing vs. Liposuction: Which is Better?

When Spanx can no longer hide unwanted bulges, turning to medical methods of removing fat sounds like a good idea. Both fat-freezing and liposuction are methods of permanently removing unwanted fat from the body.

What is Liposuction?
Liposuction removes fat from the body through the principles of negative pressure and suction – if you’ve ever used a straw to suck up black pearls in bubble tea, you’d probably have an instinctive idea of how liposuction works.

The surgeon usually makes an incision near the treatment area, injecting IV fluids to loosen the fats, before injecting a long, narrow tube that sucks out the loosened fat. The surgeon will usually push and pull this narrow tube back and forth in the treatment area, to remove as much fat as possible.

What are Fat-Freezing Treatments?
On the other hand, fat-freezing generally works on the principles that fat cells die when cooled to a certain temperature, and fat cells freeze faster than skin cells do. This way, a non-invasive device can freeze and destroy fat cells at a controlled temperature, while keeping surrounding skin intact and unharmed.

To further destroy the fat cells, the device can further deliver acoustic sound energy that shatters these fat cells, making it easier for our bodies to expel the dead fat cells through our natural metabolic processes.

This is done through the application of a probe and conductive gel to the treatment area, similar to how an ultrasound scan is done. One example of such a non-invasive device is Proshock Ice, which we offer at LS Aesthetic Clinic to eliminate stubborn fat and cellulite.

While both methods are effective for suitable candidates, which is better? Suitability can differ depending on the criteria you have in mind. We break it down for you:

Fat-Freezing vs Liposuction: A Breakdown

Comparison Factors

Fat-Freezing via ProShock Ice

Liposuction

Time Taken

Fat-freezing treatments are usually spread out into multiple sessions, generally 6 sessions at 1-2 week intervals. Each session usually takes 1 hour.

While some report seeing results just after 1 session, optimum results are seen usually after 6 sessions.

Liposuction generally tends to be a 1- time procedure, and surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.

You may not see results immediately as a result of post-surgical swelling. It may take about 1-3 months to see full results as the body eliminates the fluids from the surgery over the next few months.

Invasiveness

Proshock Ice is a non-invasive device – it makes use of the theory that fat cells freeze faster than skin cells do, to permanently remove fat cells from under your skin, without the need for surgery.

This is an invasive surgical procedure that requires cutting, stitching, and anaesthesising.

Typically, a surgeon will make an incision near your abdomen and use a blunt metal cannula to suction the fats of your body.

Risks

Since Proshock Ice is a non-surgical procedure, it comes with no surgical risks.

Temporary side effects include redness at the treatment area, but this should subside within a few hours.

Given its surgical nature, liposuction does come with its fair share of risks, such as:

Internal bleeding

Punctures of internal organs

Fat embolism, in which pieces of loosened fat break away and become trapped in a blood vessel or gather in the lungs, causing dangerous blockages

Pain

Proshock Ice is generally a well-tolerated procedure. Most patients generally do not report feeling pain during or after their treatments, as the cooling effect of the device induces numbness.

While you will not feel pain during the surgery due to general anaesthesia, most patients generally feel some degree of pain post-surgery, as the body adapts and heals.

Downtime

There is no downtime associated with Proshock Ice. Feel free to resume your daily activities after!

Some swelling is to be expected immediately after liposuction surgery. Downtime is expected to be about 1 week, while you will most likely have to refrain from exercise for at least a month.

Price

Prices generally range between $2,000 to $9,000, depending on the number of areas treated.

Liposuction procedures in Singapore generally can cost between $4,000 to $12,000, depending on the type of liposuction technology used and the number of areas treated.

Disclaimer: these treatments are both not able to improve the appearance of loose skin, neither are they substitutes for weight loss – if you consume more calories than you burn, remaining fat cells can still expand. Eating clean is still key, and the golden rules still apply: stay clear from sugars – they cause wrinkles too! – and load up on those veggies.

Having Post-Travel Skin Woes? We've Got You Covered

Going on a vacation is great, but changes in climates can wreak unnecessary havoc on our skin. But be it dry skin from that skiing trip, or sudden breakouts from (a bit) too much time at the beach, we’ve got you covered.

Sunburns
Reddened, peeling skin - A common woe among holiday beach-goers. Sunburns are extremely damaging to the skin and require proper care.

Avoid harsh soaps or cleansers to prevent further irritation. And as tempting as it might be, don’t – just don’t – pick at your skin!

Aloe vera gel works wonders in bringing much-needed comfort to sore skin, while chilling your moisturiser in the fridge helps too.

But prevention is always better than cure - spending 5 minutes applying sunblock is definitely worth the time (and agony) saved from potential sunburns!

LS Aesthetic Clinic - Post-Travel Skin Issues

Dry Skin
Experiencing winter overseas can unfortunately rob our skin of much-needed moisture, increasing the appearance of unwanted fine lines, and making it more difficult to apply makeup smoothly. But what else can you do apart from spamming moisturiser every other hour or so?

Temporary solutions include spraying facial mists for added hydration, and drinking more water. But for a more immediate solution, hydrafacials are great facial treatments for infusing hydrating serums deep into your skin, restoring that dewy glow.

Breakouts
All the time spent outdoors, especially when holidaying in a warmer climate, can lead to a buildup of sweat, dirt, and oil on our skin. This unfortunately makes for a great pore-clogging, formula, in turn leading to unwanted acne breakouts.

If you’re already experiencing a full-on breakout, don’t fret! Our medicated acne topical creams should be able to get the breakout under control fairly easily. Opt for our facial washes containing active ingredients proven effective against acne bacteria.

If you find this cycle happening pretty often due to acne-prone skin, you might want to try carbon laser peels – these are laser treatments that use carbon peels prior to the laser treatments, making them more effective in controlling sebum production, reducing acne inflammation, and minimising pores!

Puffy Eyes
A lack of sleep from a red-eye flight could cause water retention, giving the appearance of puffy eyes. The downside is, this can’t be covered up with makeup, so the only way to reduce its appearance is to get rid of it entirely.

LS Aesthetic Clinic - Radiofrequency Treatments for Puffy Eyes

Typical hacks include putting a chilled spoon or a cold compress to each eye, to help reduce the puffiness.

However, this process can be sped up with radiofrequency undereye treatments, which help to clear up mild undereye puffiness while tightening skin and stimulating collagen production. And no worries, it’s safe, non-invasive, and has no downtime! Most of our patients end up falling asleep during their treatment.

Freezing Fats Away - What's That All About?

In an ideal world, we’d be able to eat as much as we want without any worries of calories, fat, or weight gain. But then again…. we don’t live in an ideal world. And sometimes no matter how hard we diet or exercise, those stubborn fats just don’t seem to go away.

But getting rid of these stubborn fats just got a whole lot easier with Proshock Ice, a non-invasive fat-freezing treatment.

Fat cells essentially self-destruct when they are cold enough – and this forms the basis behind the Proshock Ice fat-freezing procedure. This non-invasive procedure involves 2 steps:

1) Ice Shock Lipolysis:
The Proshock Ice’s cooling plates are placed on the targeted area for a fixed amount of time. This gently suctions in the skin surrounding the fat you wanted to freeze, then uses a controlled cooling system to cool the skin to the precise temperature at which fat cells die. This has an effect of crystallising fat cells.

2) Acoustic Shock Therapy:
The second step involves a probe being applied to the targeted area, along with a conductive gel – think of it as somewhat like an ultrasound scan, with the gel to facilitate the scan. The probe delivers acoustic sound energy that shatters the crystallised fat cells while keeping surrounding skin intact. This makes it easier for the shattered fat cells to be expelled through the body’s natural metabolic processes.

Proshock Ice can be done to reduce stubborn fat on many areas, especially on the:
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Belly
  • Love handles

While Proshock Ice doesn’t mimic liposuction in its one-stop-shop fat removal, above all, Proshock Ice is a great way to gradually get rid of stubborn fats without the risk. A healthy diet and a consistent exercise routine are still key too – we’ll get to that in future blog posts, so stay tuned!
