What exactly is a laser facial?
It might not be as pampering and relaxing as the spa facial you’re used to, but a laser facial is able to address stubborn skin concerns more effectively.
Depending on your skin concern, laser facials are able to:
- Smooth out acne scars and reduce blemishes
- Minimise large pores
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Stimulate collagen production
- Reduce pigmentation such as melasma, freckles, or age spots
- Improve skin texture and tone
- Remove upper lip hair
What’s the process of having a laser facial like?
Most times, a laser facial generally involves 3 steps: preparation, the laser treatment, and masking.
During the preparation phase, a therapist generally helps to cleanse your face and remove any traces of makeup, followed by the application of a numbing cream should you require it. While most patients find laser treatments very tolerable, a numbing cream or a painkiller can be given to make you feel more at ease. After letting the numbing cream set in for 15 minutes, you’ll be ready for your treatment!
During your consultation prior to the treatment, Dr Kok would have already recommended a laser type for you after examining your skin condition. There are a range of lasers available, ranging from ablative lasers like fractional CO2 lasers, to non-ablative lasers such as the Dual Yellow laser.
Ablative lasers tend to resurface the skin, meaning that your old skin will peel, making way for the growth of new, smooth skin. Do note that this might incur some social downtime though! On the other hand, non-ablative lasers don’t cause your skin to peel, but are still able to address most skin imperfections.
The type of laser chosen will also depend on the skin concerns you want treated, be it pigmentation or hair removal.
During your treatment, protective goggles or metal shields will be placed over your eyes. The treatment will most likely feel like a warm, prickly sensation, but mostly very tolerable. Depending on your type of treatment, it should last for about 15-30 minutes.
Following your treatment, one of our therapists will apply a mask for you to soothe your skin, if this is deemed suitable as a post-treatment option. This should last for about 20 minutes.
